Vampire Songs is a set of five atmospheric piano pieces by composer/improviser Lona Kozik — moody, hypnotic, and pulsing with cinematic energy. Think less blood and gore, more fog-drenched alleyways, velvet curtains, and mysterious shadows slipping through the night.
These pieces conjure the world of vampire films without leaning on the usual horror clichés. Instead, they channel unease, longing, and gothic glamour. The opening piece, The Vampire Awakes, unfolds over a low drone — a shadowy, slow burn of melodic twists that bloom into a mournful, cinematic theme.
While the writing may appear simple on the surface, each piece presents interpretive and technical challenges: from passing melodies between hands, to maintaining even fingerwork, to mastering the delicate art of atmospheric playing. Perfect for pianists who love storytelling, subtle drama, and music that casts a spell.
